UVic Summer Piano

Join us for the third annual UVic Summer Piano Immersion Program, a nine-day intensive held at the University of Victoria’s prestigious School of Music. This immersive experience offers participants the opportunity to deepen their musical knowledge and refine their performance skills under the guidance of four distinguished faculty members: May Ling Kwok, Michelle MaresDr. Jamie Syer and Bruce Vogt.

Program Highlights:

  • Masterclasses: Engage in dynamic morning and afternoon sessions with our esteemed instructors, gaining valuable insights into technique, interpretation, and performance.
  • Daily Recitals: Showcase your artistry at our daily noon-time recitals, held in the acoustically superb Phillip T. Young Recital Hall, featuring two Steinway concert grands.
  • Private Lessons: Receive one personalized, 40-minute lesson with a faculty member to focus on your individual musical goals.
  • Faculty Talks: Participate in three afternoon lectures led by faculty, exploring a variety of topics relevant to the pianist’s craft.
  • Duo Day: Experience the joy of collaborative music-making with a dedicated day for 4-hand and 2-piano repertoire, ideal for those interested in chamber music.
  • Practice Facilities: Enjoy full access to the School of Music’s 28 practice rooms, available daily from 7 AM to 11 PM.
  • Schubert Course: Optionally register for a two-hour afternoon course on the works of Franz Schubert, taught by Dr. Michelle Fillion and Bruce Vogt, exploring his music in depth.

Who is eligible?

Anyone aged 15+ with repertoire the equivalent of level 8 or higher Royal Conservatory of Music (exceptions may be allowed by special arrangement).

  • $700 (CAD)

Special Course: Franz Schubert

Taught by Dr. Michelle Fillion and Bruce Vogt

  • This course is open to both program participants and the general public.

    Course Description:

    Explore the life and music of Franz Schubert in this in-depth class, led by scholars and pianists Dr. Michelle Fillion and Bruce Vogt. Gain a deeper understanding of Schubert’s masterpieces, with a focus on interpretation, technique, and historical context.

  • Cost: $240 (CAD).

Further Options

  • Extra 40-minute private lessons with our instructors are available upon request for an additional fee of $60 per lesson.

Registration opens on February 1, 2025

Attendees are responsible for arranging their own accommodation and meals.
